Born From The Light
This is a universal prayer that seeks to make sacred messages tangible in their essence through the sound. Sound touches us in the place where we can be touched - in the heart. In the sound, that which is not visible becomes audible because it comes from another world.
Where did we come from?
Who am I?
What is it that makes me a human being?
Where does my soul come from?
What is the soul?
We invite you to remember. A reminder, that we are never alone and not separate beings. We come from the one light and will go back into it.
The mantras and thus sacred syllables, which have been handed down for thousands of years, sing of our nature, of connectedness, and of this potential that wants to be lived and developed. The melodies, which have touched the heart from time immemorial, accompany us as if they were not from this world, but are rather a sound of eternity.
European classical music, traditional Jewish music, and music from the Hindu Sanskrit tradition, are connected in the root of the essence. The material from melodies and texts, partially recognizable, is newly woven and transferred to the consciousness of our time. This is done with respect and gratitude for the original sources as well as the circumstances of the current time.
My heartfelt thanks go to all those who made it possible for this music to become audible.
Hallelujah - Amen!
Eli Schewa and Juliane

Fredi Hallauer, CD reviewer
"Eli Sheva, actually Elischewa Dreyfus, is a singer from Biel. She is the daughter of a Christian mother and a Jewish father, who together founded an interreligious and inter-spiritual centre, to which an Indian teacher gave the idea. All these elements plus the music from all these cultures with the beautiful, trained voice of Elischewa unite on this album. She is musically supported by Amélie Berner on harp and Uda Auch on accordion.
The recording was done in the Stadtkirche Biel. This gives an incredibly beautiful sound and the music, the singing touches you immediately. The repertoire consists of own compositions, two Sanskrit mantras, a Bach melody with text by Eli Sheva, an adaptation of a song by Hildegard von Bingen, the Ave Maria, two Jewish melodies with text by Eli Sheva and R. Kahn.
What sounds like a jumble here actually comes from one cast, one heart. The booklet reveals a little more about the background and all the lyrics can be read in German and English. This is an album of very soothing music, especially in these difficult times and for the Christmas season or Weinuka."
